ST. ISABEL'S HIGH SCHOOL
History
In 1883 the Rt. Rev. Dr. Leo Meurin S.J., Archbishop of Bombay,founded the St. Isabel,s
Ladies Charitable Association. On 9th November 1885,The Association started St.
Isabel's Primary School in Matherpacady Village on 9th November 1887,with 40 students
and two teachers. Later St. Isabel's Primary School was relocated to Tank Square,
and thereafter, Mount Road.
In 1931, under the spiritual guidance of the Vicar Rev. Fr. Manuel Xavier Gomes,
Rosary Church, the Ladies Charitable Association purchased a new site at 39 Mount
Road and built the present three storied High School Buildings in stages. Rev. Fr.
Charles Ghezzi S.J. Administrator of the Archdiocese of Bombay, blessed the foundation
stone in 11th October 1936. Miss Lily Baptista was the Founder and Managing Trustee
and Mrs. Josephine Miranda was the Co-Founder and TreasurerOver the decades, the
student strength grew tremendously and was co-educational till April 1968. From
the academic year June 1968 onwards, the School admitted only girl students
